Some of these shelters/rescues are no-kill and some of these are traditional county pounds. If you have a rescue or shelter for cats (it doesn't have to be cats-only) located anywhere in Arizona, and you would like to be listed here, please send me an e-mail and let me know the particulars. If your site is already listed here but you'd like a description entered, please e-mail a short description and I'll plug that in. It's been my experience that most shelters/rescues operate at full-capacity all the time, but if you do have a cat that needs a new home, perhaps one of these places might be able to give you other ideas. Hopefully, you'll be looking here because you want to adopt a cat that needs a forever-home. Also, I'm sure that most of these shelters could probably use volunteers, supplies and/or donations! These are listed in no particular order. I've tried to note the general geographical area these places are located. This is the organization where I volunteer. R.E.S.C.U.E. takes dogs and cats from the euthanasia list at the local pounds. This isn't a rescue but it does offer low cost spay/neuter solutions and information on Trap, Neuter and Release (TNR). This is a unique facility; it was created to care for animals that have been abused or neglected and who have been rescued by the Animal Cruelty Investigative Unit. The hope is that these animals will end up in loving, permanent homes. MASH also takes in, for a limited time, small pets belonging to people who have had to check into domestic violence shelters which don't accept pets. This isn't a shelter or rescue but rather a group of organizations working to better the lives of companion animals on the Navajo Nation. |
